The Laurels INRAE 2024 : One Award Winner from Our Centre

On 18 November 2024, The INRAE Laurels Ceremony celebrated the careers of women and men whose work has led to world-class scientific advances, essential for addressing agricultural, food, and environmental challenges. This annual event is an opportunity to honour the outstanding achievements of researchers, as well as — through a dedicated award — the invaluable contributions of technical and administrative staff serving the common good.

Thibault Datry, ecologist and specialist in aquatic biodiversity at the INRAE Lyon–Grenoble–Auvergne–Rhône-Alpes Centre, has opened up a new frontier in environmental science by studying the role of intermittent rivers — waterways that flow only part of the year but are crucial to maintaining the balance of aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems. He has developed extensive international research networks, notably through his leadership of the DRYvER project, which uses citizen science to map intermittent rivers across Europe and raise awareness within the European Union of the need to better manage these vital ecosystems. More broadly, he contributes to promoting the concept of water as a common good. Alongside the CNRS and BRGM, he co-directs the national research programme OneWater – Water as a Common Good (PEPR).
